The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) boss George Kinoti has been sentenced to four months imprisonment at the Kamiti Maximum Prison for contempt of court.
Reports indicate that Mr Kinoti failed to return firearms confiscated from businessman Jimmy Wanjigi during a crackdown in his Malindi home in 2017.
In June 2019, the court ruled that the government had seized the firearms regardless of Mr Wanjigi possessing a valid license.
In early 2021, the High Court in Nairobi gave the DCI 30 days to return the firearms as ordered in 2019.
After failing to do so, the businessman filed contempt of court proceedings seeking the respondents committed to civil jail.
Mr Kinoti has been ordered to present himself to the correctional facility within seven days failure to which the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has been instructed to issue a warrant of arrest against him.
