The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has summoned Murang’a Woman Rep Sabina Chege for sensationally suggesting that Jubilee government benefited from a rigged election in 2017.
The MP made the remarks during Azimio la Umoja campaign rally in Vihiga County on February 10.
In a letter seen by the Press Point, Ms Chege will be questioned at the electoral agency offices at Anniversary Towers on Tuesday next week.
“You are hereby required to attend the IEBC offices on February 15 in the forenoon for examination in regard to violation of clause 6 (a) and 6 (I) of the Electoral Code of Conduct,” the letter dated February 11 read in part.
The legislator during the campaign trail said “I have heard some people here say we rigged the polls and there’s some truth in it,” Ms Chege said adding, that it was possible to rig in ODM Leader Raila Odinga during the coming elections.
Deputy President William Ruto has refuted the claims and claimed that the remarks were aimed at orchestrating violence which he said must be condemned.
The second-in-command said he together with President Uhuru Kenyatta won the election and did not steal any votes.
