The government has declared a dusk to dawn curfew for the next one month in bid to restore sanity in Marsabit County.
The restrictions, effective today, prohibits residents from going outside from 6:00pm to 6:00am.
Interior CS Fred Matiang’i said the government was committed to ending the insecurity crisis that has claimed dozens of lives in the recent past.
“We must bring that county (Marsabit) under peace and ensure all illegal firearms are surrendered to law enforcers,” said Dr Matiang’i.
A security operation will be sustained until peace resumes in the county.
Additionally, Kom area in Merti, Isiolo has been declared a disturbed area therefore a security operation zone with the CS noting that illegal activities in the area could be funding conflicts in Marsabit.
“There are illegal mining activities going on in Kom that could be funding and supporting some conflicts in Marsabit with some of the resources being channeled to terrorism,” he noted.
This paves way for an operation to stop banditry incursions and ensure normalcy resumes in the area within Isiolo-Samburu border.
The declaration comes following the killing of five people including a senior chief and his assistant chief on Wednesday in Awaye area.
