Mandera County Commissioner Onesmus Kyatha has advised residents to emulate Somalia residents’ in the fight against terror activities in the region.
The adminstrator said Somalia citizens were prompt in reporting acts of terrorism to the security apparatus inspiring public confidence.
“Last week, we saw how citizens of Somalia work with the security agencies to make sure that they weed out these Al-Shaabab militants in their area,” he said.
Reports indicate that Somalia nationals have formed armed clan militia who fight against Alshabab alongside Somalia national security forces.
Mr Kyatha said flow of information between the authorities and the locals should be enhanced for better policing.
Mandera has been a hotbed for terrorism for decades and better mitigations are needed to tame the vice.
Mr Kyatha encouraged the residents to report any suspicious activities to the authorities for prompt response.
“The government has stepped up efforts to deal with all kinds of terrorism,” he said.
He made the remarks while briefing journalists on recent attacks in Libehiya and Alungu areas where he revealed that a police station would be established in Libehiya to avert subsequent attacks and ensure prompt response to insecurity cases.
