Three women who allegedly swindled their friend of Sh375, 000 promising to help her find a husband were Monday charged with obtaining money by false pretence.
The suspects: Angela Ndunda, Gladys Mwende Mwinzi and Triza Mumbi Kithia commited the crime in Industrial Area on diverse dates between September 30 and October 6 this year.
The court heard that the trio defrauded Mary Nzilani, Ms Mwinzi’s new found friend, while promising to offer her witch-doctor services.
The victim is said to have visited Ms Mwinzi and told her that she was leaving a lonely life after death of her husband and was in love with a man who was not “serious”.
Ms Mwinzi reportedly told her that her another friend, Ms Ndunda, had been helped rekindle love with her husband who had neglected her by a witch-doctor from Kitui.
She would then later allegedly promise to link her up with another friend who would assist her reach the witch-doctor.
Ms Ndunda then introduced Nzilani to Ms Kithia who purported to be the witch-doctor and who later demanded the money to offer the services.
The complainant, on realizing that the three had conned her, reported the matter and the suspects were later arrested.
Appearing before Makadara Senior Principal Magistrate Mary Njagi, they pleaded not guilty to charges and were each released on Sh200, 000 bond.
The case will be mentioned on November 11 with hearing set to start in February next year.
