Eleven people have died and more than 20 injured after two vehicles they were traveling in were involved in an accident at Subuiga blackspot along Meru-Nanyuki road.

The grisly accident that happened around 7PM involved a bus and a Nissan Matatu.

Police reports indicate the driver of Isuzu bus (enroute to Meru side) lost control of the vehicle while descending the Subuiga hills and rammed into an oncoming Nissan Matatu headed in the opposite direction (Nanyuki) pushing it several metres off the road.

The bus then collided with a truck before stopping.

Seven passengers in the Matatu and four others in the bus, including the driver, died on the spot while several others were injured in the crash.

Those injured were rushed to St Theresa Mission Hospital Kiirua while the 11 bodies moved to Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the bus passengers were headed for a concert at Kinoru stadium in Meru town.
