The Lolldaiga community in Laikipia has been given two months to apply for compensation for an inferno that razed down a local conservancy in March last year.
The fire that started during a military training exercise for the British Army Training Unit Kenya (Batuk) destroyed over 10, 000 acres of vegetation at Lolldaiga conservancy.
The community had for more than a year been embroiled in a tussle with Batuk over the fire that it submitted in court that emitted smoke that contained dangerous chemicals and explosives.
The chemicals, the community argued, had contributed to eyesight problems and miscarriage in human beings and livestock.
Over 1000 community members have been enjoined in the suit.
Batuk counsel Lawrence Ondieki told the Environment and Land Court in Nanyuki that the Inter-governmental Liason committee will this week issue a notice notifying the public about issuance of claim forms.
The case will proceed on December 5.
