Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom has passed on aged 96 years at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.
The Queen, who has been British monarch for the last 70 years, died in the afternoon according to information shared by Buckingham Palace.
She was born in Mayfair, London as first child of the Duke and Duchess of York.
She ascended to the throne aged 25 years while on a tour in Kenya in 1952 after death of her father, the King of England.
She is survived by four children: Prince Charles, 73, Princess Anne, 72, Prince Andrew, 62, and Prince Edward, 58 with the eldest (Charles) taking over as the King immediately.
Her husband Prince Philip died last year aged 99.
