Wajir’s Townheed polling station presiding officer who was shot thrice for allegedly refusing to alter August 9 election results has demanded for justice from the government.
The officer, Mohamed Qanyare, had his leg amputated after he suffered multiple gunshot injuries and is hospitalized at Wajir Referral Hospital.
He was overseeing the electoral process at polling centre in Eldas constituency when the incident happened.
According to witnesses, the officer had earlier been instructed by unknown people to enter a certain car where they ordered him to alter form 34A in favour of a certain candidate but he declined.
Back in the hall when Mr Qanyare was about to hand over the phones and gadgets among other poll materials, someone switched off the lights and the officer was allegedly shot at a close range.
Speaking from e hospital bed, Mr Qanyare asked the State to probe the issue and bring the culprits to book.
He also appealed to lobbies to take up the matter and ensure justice is served.
