Isiolo’s Garre clan of the Somali community has pledged its support for Isiolo North PNU MP candidate Mwenda Thuranira’s bid saying he was best suited to ensure maximum development in the constituency.
Dozens of the community members including elders exuded confidence that Mr Thuranira would transform the region that they claimed had been neglected by current and former leaders.
Elder Adan Ahmed Abdulahi said they had after thorough consultations with the community members resolved to support Mr Thuranira to take over from MP Hassan Odha after the August elections.
“We came together as members of the community because we have for a long time been voting in leaders but we have not benefited with any tangible development from them,”said Mr Ahmed.
Yusuf Yodow, another elder, hailed the candidate’s education scholarship program that has benefited hundreds of needy secondary school students across the county.
“We have witnessed his development and are confident that if elected, he will extend the support to more learners and address our grievances,” the elder said terming the leader development oriented and with Isiolo communities interest at heart.
Mr Thuranira promised to prioritize on security that has been the thorn in the flesh of Isiolo residents especially those living near the county’s borders with neighbouring counties.
“In my bid to provide a lasting solution to insecurity crisis, I will ensure every chief has an accessible office to make it easy for residents to report issues that cause a threat to security,” said Mr Thuranira.
Additionally, he said he would regularly hold barazas between communities living within the border areas to ensure they coexist peacefully to prevent resource based conflicts that have claimed tens of lives in the recent past.
Reports however indicate that a section of the clan members want Mr Thuranira to support Nominated MCA Sumeya Bishar who hails from the community for Woman Rep seat.
