Residents of Meru Town and its environs have been asked to be vigilant following surge in mugging cases.

The victims, police say, move on motorbikes snatching handbags, phones and other valuables from unsuspecting individuals.

Among the measures put in place to curb the menace include the recent establishment of a patrol base at Gakoromone market.

Imenti North Sub-County police boss Alexander Makau said five suspects had been arrested and are currently assisting police in the ongoing investigation.

More than 20 mobile phones suspected to have been stolen have also been recovered.
