Three people have been seriously injured after a truck carrying building stones was involved in an accident at Nithi bridge along Embu-Meru highway.

The victims, driver and two occupants, who are receiving treatment at Chuka County Referral Hospital were headed towards Chuka from Mutonga quarry in Meru county.

It took almost one hour for residents who ran to the scene after the accident to remove the badly wounded driver who was trapped in the wreckage.

The vehicle could have developed brake failure before veering off the bridge and rolling several times.

“The vehicle could have had brake failure because it kept veering off the road before rolling down the valley,” said Mr John Kimathi, an eye witness.
