Police in Kiambu have arrested three suspects in connection with the brutal killing of Kenya Institute of Mass Communication student Purity Wangechi.

The main suspect John Wanyoike Kibungi was smoked out of his hideout at Kirigiti in the wee hours of Sunday morning as he prepared to escape.

Brendan Muchiri and Kanaiya Kamau who assisted the prime suspect in killing the 19-year-old college student and disposing her body have also been arrested.

Purity Wangechi’s body with visible stab wounds and strangulation marks was discovered yesterday morning dumped by the roadside near Mburiria estate around 6am.

Wangechi had fallen in love with Wanyoike and they had been in a relationship for some time before she discovered that he was a thug.

A misunderstanding arose between the two after the lady confronted the man over his illegal dealings.

The lady left the college for Kirigiti Friday to meet the boyfriend and try and rekindle their dying love only to unknowingly walk into a death trap.

During the arrest, detectives recovered the murder weapon stuffed in the man’s waistband.

Preliminary investigations showed the 19-year-old had been killed elsewhere and her body dumped at the scene by her killers.

Bloodstained bedding, clothes and Purity’s identification documents were recovered yesterday.

The teenager’s body was moved to the City mortuary, pending an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
