Milimani residents in Kulamawe, Isiolo who have been grappling with drainage challenges occasioned by upgrading of Mukuu-Kambi ya Juu road have a reason to smile after the concerned authority agreed to rectify the issue.
The upgrading of the Isiolo township road project resulted to blockage of the drainage system driving the waste into people’s compounds and houses posing health hazard.
Their past appeals to several government offices turned futile with only the Commission on Adminstrative Justice (Ombudsman) coming to their aid.
Two months after lodging the complaint with Ombudsman, their plea was responded to by the Kenya Rural Roads Authority.
While receiving a letter from KeRRA at Isiolo Ombudsman office, Cila Kinoti Muthomi representing the complainants lauded CAJ for intervening into the issue and ensuring justice.
“I am so happy that after two months of reporting the issue, we have gotten results,” elated Ms Kinoti said while receiving the letter from CAJ Chair Florence Kajuju.
She said after filing the complaint, Ms Kajuju visited the office and invited them over for a wide discussion.
Ms Kajuju reiterated the commission’s commitment to tackling maladministration in public sector by investigating cases of abuse of power, unfair treatment and injustices.
KeRRA Acting Director General Philemon Kandie apologised for the inconveniences caused to the community and acknowledged that the issue resulted from absence of drainage system within the project area.
Also, due to limitations within the project provisions that could have been utilised to mitigate the issue.
Eng. Kandie said the Authority had already carried out an assessment of the amount needed for remedial works on the drainage of the road to approximately Sh6 million.
“We hereby commit to disburse the amount within 90 days to facilitate commencement of necessary works,” the official said in letter dated March 30.
