The public rate Rehema Jaldesa’s leadership higher than all other leaders in Isiolo county, a new poll shows.
Three years in office, the Isiolo Woman Representative has a 30 percent approval rating, more than that of Nominated Senator Abshiro Halake, Isiolo North MP Hassan Odha and his South counterpart Abdi Koropu combined which stands at 24 percent.
Ms Halake got 14 percent, Mr Odha seven percent and Mr Koropu got three percent.
Trailed behind by Senator Fatuma Dullo who got 24 percent rating and Governor Mohamed Kuti with 22 percent, Ms Jaldesa was named as the most capable leader with respondents saying she had realized much development compared to her predecessor Tiya Galgalo.
Those interviewed termed the legislator’s support for women groups and common Mwananchi as the key areas she had performed well but lamented that she was ‘tribal’.
The poll indicates that if elections were to be held in 2020, the lawmaker allied to Deputy President William Ruto’s Tangatanga wing would get re-election.
Her support still remains solid despite increasing pressure from Ms Galgalo and a senior government officer being groomed to battle it out with her in 2022.
Governor Kuti, who has been under heated criticism over poor performance and alleged graft, is slowly losing popularity as the current figure is a drop of 8 percent from another survey conducted in late 2019.
The county MP, tied with Senator Dullo on most vocal leader in the county at 35 percent with Ms Halake following with 20 percent rating and Governor Kuti trailing behind at 7 percent. MPs Odha and Koropu got a 1.8% rating and 1 percent respectively.
The poll was conducted from May to July this year with 1000 residents from Isiolo town and its outskirts, Garbatulla and parts of Merti taking part in the interviews done through questionnaires.
