Tharaka Nithi County Police Commander Charles Mbatu Wednesday evening escaped death by a whisker after his Toyota Saloon car was hit by a Toyota Prado in Chuka along Meru -Nairobi highway.

According to an eye witness, the county police boss was joining the highway from Godka Hotel when a speeding vehicle hit his private car bearing Uganda registration number at around 8 pm.

The officer was rushed to the nearby Chuka County Referral Hospital where he was treated and later released.

The occupant of the Prado was not hurt.

Confirming the shocking incidence, Meru South Sub County Police Commander, David Ngondi said the county police boss is doing well.

“The county police commander has been treated and allowed to go home,” said Mr Ngondi.

Several accidents have been witnessed at the spot raising the need for the erection of bumps.

“Many people have died here because it’s a busy place and there are no bumps to reduce the speed of the vehicles,” said Mr John Muthengi, a resident.
