A section of Tharaka Nithi County politicians led by Chuka Igambang’ombe MP Patrick Munene have dismissed those ‘celebrating’ arrest and prosecution of Governor Muthomi Njuki over Sh34.7 million incinerator procurement scandal.
MP Munene said politicians who want Njuki stopped from transacting any county business after the court barred him from accessing the Kathwana office are opportunists salivating over his seat.
Addressing residents of Magumoni ward at Mukuuni cereals store on Friday, the legislator said the ‘desperate’ politicians had taken advantage of the Governor’s predicament and want him out of 2022 gubernatorial race.
“The desperate politicians are celebrating and wishing that Njuki does not run in 2022, ” Mr Munene said.
The lawmaker expressed confidence that Njuki will soon be off the hook and the enemies will be left with a ‘rotten egg on their faces’.
The youthful MP said though Njuki has a case in court, he should be given ample time to serve his people but away from the Kathwana office as ordered by the court.
MCAs: Wilson Nyaga (Muthambi), Anita Karimi (nominated) and Karen Karimi (nominated), said Njuki is a performer and had in the last three years achieved a lot despite numerous blocks and fights by his political rivals.
Mr Nyaga who is also the minority leader said MCAs will continue supporting Njuki’s development agenda as he continues with his case.
“Governor Njuki is a performer and has done marvelous and that is why I support him despite being the leader of minority in the assembly, ” said Mr Nyaga.
Njuki said when he was joining politics in 2013 he knew very well that he will have several political rivals who will always be against him and his development agenda.
The county boss said that he will not be intimidated by his rivals who are burning midnight oil plotting for his downfall.
The leader said having grown with his father who was a circumciser, he does not fear the daggers that they have already removed from the scabbard .
“Having grown with my father who was a circumciser, I don’t fear knives,” said Mr Njuki.
The Governor however appealed to the county residents to continue praying for him so that he is exonerated soon.
Njuki was released by Milimani court on a Sh6 million cash bail or Sh10 million bond after denying the charge of irregular award of a Sh34.7 million solid waste incinerator tender to his company.
He was charged alongside his wife Muthoni and several county officials.
