Tharaka-Nithi Governor Njuki will spend the night in a cell awaiting arraignment on Tuesday over the irregular award of Sh34.9 million incinerator tender that was procured without an Environmental Impact Assessment.
The Governor spent better part of Monday being interrogated by detectives at Integrity Centre in Nairobi.
Seven companies that bid for the tender to supply, install and commission the waste incinerator including Westomaxx that won despite submitting fraudulent documents are associated with the Governor.
Mr Njuki alongside 16 others who include county staff will likely be charged with among others conflict of interest, abuse of office and conspiring to commit an offence.
