Police in Makueni are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a Catholic priest who reportedly committed suicide in a lodging in Kilala town in Makueni County.
Preliminary reports indicate that the body of Fr Stephen Kyalo Nzioki of Kako was discovered in the hotel’s room after he failed to show up on Sunday morning raising suspicion among the hotel attendants.
According to County police boss Joseph Ole Napeyian, the priest had been spotted purchasing a bottle of wine before the unfortunate Sunday morning incident.
Police recovered a bottle of insecticide, two glasses, a mask and another bottle of wine alongside his body in the room.
The body has since been moved to county’s Referral Hospital Mortuary pending investigation.
