Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance and Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress Party have agreed to work together.
DP Ruto Sunday announced that they had after in-depth discussions agreed to work together in bettering the lives of Kenyans.
“I have had in depth discussions with Mr Mudavadi and have agreed Kenya is greater than each one of us and that we will sacrifice to consolidate our nation and take it to the next level,” the DP said at Bomas of Kenya where the pact and Mr Mudavadi’s presidential bid was unveiled.
While terming Mr Mudavadi decision to work with him as a turning point in political discourse, Dr Ruto said it was only the pair that had identified economy as among the areas that needed to be fixed.
“The coming together of Uchumi Bora (Better economy) and bottom up will decisively deal with the challenges affecting the Kenyan economy,” he said.
He said a better economy must start down and move upwards to ensure majority of Kenyans have money in their pockets.
Dr Ruto said UDA will work with ANC, Moses Wetangula’s Ford Kenya and other outfits that want to walk with them the journey of bringing Kenyans together.
While hailing Mr Mudavadi for speaking on behalf of Kenyans for highlighting poor economy, ballooning debts and rampant graft, DP Ruto echoed his sentiments on need to raise standards of leadership and protect democracy and Constitution.
He said Kenyans must reject politics of deceit, lies and conmanship and maintained that everyone had the right to choose friends and leaders of their choice.
“As a nation, we must resist and refuse criminalization of dissent. The criminal justice system cannot be weaponized to drive political narrative and erect projects to make Kenya a preserve of a few people and those who wield power,” the DP said.
He said time had come for leaders to make bold step and do the right thing by joining his camp.
“It is about time we do the right thing. My team and I will work with you to build a nation that serves all Kenyans equally,” he noted.
The Deputy President announced joint rallies with Mr Mudavadi starting Wednesday with Nakuru, Western region and central among the areas they will tour before end of the week.
“The journey to building unity has started in Bomas and next stop will be Wednesday in Nakuru, Friday in Western Kenya and Saturday in Central,” Dr Ruto revealed.
