Police in Imenti South, Meru have launched investigations into shooting of a man by a police officer manning one of the banks in Nkubu town.
Reports indicate that Sergeant Robert Kabetu of the Sub-County Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU) was undertaking his routine checks of bank guards when he found officer Roy Muchiri with Pharis Karani Gitobu.
On enquiring if all was well, the police officer responded in affirmative.
But moments later while checking on other bank guards, Sgt Kabetu heard a gunshot only to find out that APC Muchiri had shot Mr Gitobu on the left ankle.
The officer surrendered himself at Nkubu Police Station and was immediately arrested and disarmed. He had AK-47 rifle loaded with 29 rounds of ammunition.
The injured man was rushed to Nkubu Consolata Mission Hospital where he is admitted.
Report made at Nkubu Police Station vide OB No 30/11/01/2022 shows that the incident happened around 2PM.
Investigations into the incident have been launched to establish what transpired before the officer shot the man.
