The government has declared December 27 a public holiday to celebrate Boxing Day.

The day that is usually celebrated by exchange of gifts on December 26 was pushed forward as it falls on a Sunday.

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i said that it would give Kenyans an opportunity to extend their generosity as well as observe their cultural diversity.

“All citizens are encouraged to recognize and celebrate the day in a manner that promotes family values and social cohesion,” said CS Matiang’i in a statement.
