The Borana Council of Elders has stated that their preferred candidate to battle it out with Governor Mohammed Kuti will come from Warjida clan of ex-County boss Godana Doyo.
The Council Chair Abdullahi Gonjobe said the Borana Governing Council will by December 30 name their Governorship flagbearer.
Mr Doyo, who is Dr Kuti’s main challenger, and four other aspirants from his clan among them Hussein Tene are expected to reach a consensus and agree on the one to support before the communication is made to the elders for official announcement.
“We (elders) have agreed that the Gubernatorial candidate will come from Warjida clan, Jirma community,” Mr Gonjobe said after three-day special governing council meeting in Kinna.
The community, he said, will also field candidates for MP, Senator and Woman Rep positions and that communication will be made before the end of the year.
The meetings also helped iron differences between aspirants to ensure only one vie for respective positions and is supported by the rest.
“We have agreed in one voice that candidates who will be endorsed by the elders are the ones the community will support,” he said adding that the community will also get into political coalitions with other communities.
