Police in Nanyuki have launched probe into alleged shooting of a 32-year-old woman by Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip around 2am on Sunday morning.
Reports made at Nanyuki Police Station vide OB No 5/24/20/21 indicate that Joy Makena was shot on the right leg following a quarrel with the legislator within Kanu ground area.
The woman was rushed to Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment.
A firearm with 13 bullets was recovered from the legislator’s bodyguard and and two spent cartridges from the scene.
The Senator later surrendered himself to police.
He claimed he was attacked by three people and that he shot the woman while defending himself.
The incident comes several days after Mr Loitiptip was accused of attempting to throw a man who has declared interest in the Lamu Senate seat into the Indian Ocean.
He is said to have assaulted Francis Mugo injuring him on the hand and left eye shortly after Deputy President William Ruto left the county for Nairobi last Tuesday.
