A Nominated MCA has sought information on minerals and precious stones available in the region and persons involved in the ongoing mining.
Mr Abdi Kunune want to be furnished with information on among others, whether the county government is aware of the miners and proprietors involved and if it generates any revenue from the natural resources.
The legislator wrote to the County Assembly Committee on Water, Environment and Natural Resources.
This comes at a time when residents continue to complain over mining activities especially in the far-flung areas blaming them on soil erosion, noise pollution and contamination of local water sources.
The locals have severally maintained that they would not allow any company to carry out extraction without involving the local communities.
It still remains unclear whether the Governor Mohammed Kuti adminstration has authorised the activities and whether it has been generating revenue from it.
Among the areas with minerals in Isiolo is Kom Durte in Merti Sub-County.
Chari for Chari Initiative team recently protested engagement of outsiders to extract minerals from the local sites.
“We ask the residents to come out and reject any attempts by non-locals to exploit the resources without the county government’s consent,” the group said.
