The Israel Non-Governmental Organization, Eye From Zion will partner with Tharaka Nithi government in establishing regional eye center at Chuka County Referral Hospital that will serve Mt Kenya region.

Eye From Zion founder Dr Nati Marcus said the Israeli doctors will continue to offer advice to the local doctors on modern technologies used in eye treatment.

Israeli Ambassador to Kenya Noah Gal, during yesterday’s tour at the facility where the NGO is currently conducting a free medical camp, expressed the need for equipping local eye specialists with best world practices and technologies for dealing with various eye complications.

“My office will give Eye From Zion and Tharaka Nithi government requisite support to ensure that the eye unit is established,” Amb Gal said.

Eye camps

The NGO doctors have since 2015 been conducting free eye medical camp at the Referral Hospital once a year and have so far screened a total of 2355 and operated 135 found with various eye complications such as cataract.

The county under the partnership will offer infrastructural support as Eye From Zion provides needed expertize and equipment.

Governor Muthomi Njuki said the partnership will also entail an exchange program between the Israeli doctors and their county counterparts for skills development.

He said his government is committed to improving all the 87 health facilities so as to better services.

“My government is committed to improving our health facilities so that we can serve more people even beyond our county,” Njuki said.

More than 1 million patients have been attended to at the county health facilities since 2017 according to the Governor.
