Mwangaza and Kiwanjani residents in Isiolo have breathed a sigh of relief following the deployment of more police officers at the Assistant Chiefs’ offices in a bid to boost security in the areas.
The officers, who had been withdrawn due to the poor state of their houses, were re-deployed after intervention by Senator Fatuma Dullo who also funded the renovation of the old quarters in the two areas that have in recent past been faced with insecurity crisis.
The move is expected to deal with insecurity in the areas as police officers can now swiftly respond to distress calls from the locals.
Speaking during the commissioning of the quarters for four police officers at both areas, Ms Dullo said she volunteered to renovate the structures following requests by the residents.
“Your MP should be the one doing this work but I decided to chip in after elders requested me to help out,” Ms Dullo said.
The legislator maintained that she was committed to fully executing the oversight role on behalf of the residents to ensure proper service delivery by the county government.
“I am not fighting the Governor but doing the work you elected me to do. Or you want me to remain silent when I can see some anomalies?” she posed.
Gender-activist-cum-politician Lucy Mworia lauded the senator for her kind gesture adding it was sad for the leader to go out of her way to assist boost security while security was MP’s mandate.
“It is unfortunate that she went into her pocket to perform roles assigned to the MP,” said Ms Mworia.
Youth leader George Karithi said the help came in handy as residents were grappling with insecurity menace.
“We are grateful that finally our cries have been heard and we are hopeful that our area will now be safe following the increased police presence,” said Mr Karithi who is eyeing the Wabera ward MCA seat.
Ms Hellen Makena, a resident, hailed Ms Dullo for the efforts saying they had for a long time beseeched security organs to deploy more officers to the area to no success.
