Majority of Isiolo residents are faced with hunger due to persistent drought being experienced in the county which has resulted to dwindling pastures and water levels.
The National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) Isiolo County Coordinator Lordman Lekalkuli said the drought situation is at late alert stage and will continue worsening in the coming months if adequate interventions are not introduced.
Mr Lekalkuli said more than 80 percent of the water sources had already dried up forcing residents in far-flung areas to walk for many kilometres in search of the crucial commodity.
There is high concentration of livestock at the available water points where water levels continue to drop by the day.
The dwindling pastures and lack of water for livestock use have left the animals emaciated and resulting in a drastic drop in livestock prices at local markets.
Mr Lekalkuli said NDMA in partnership with the Isiolo county government and other organisations had rolled out water trucking services in the remote areas to ensure residents have a regular supply for domestic use.
