The circumstances surrounding the attack of a secondary school teacher in Oldonyiro, Isiolo have thrown the county into confusion as the police and victim share contrasting information.
Residents and some of the investigators now wonder who to believe as both narrations lack an iota of similarities.
Mr Pius Gaichu Mugambi, a teacher of Physics and Mathematics claimed to have been attacked by a group of five men within Oldonyiro trading centre while he came from a shop to buy milk at around 8:50 pm on Wednesday night.
One of the attackers hit him with a blunt object on the forehead falling into a ditch by the roadside before a police officer came to his rescue.
The teacher said one of the attackers was a student well known to him.
But, police reports indicate that the teacher was drunk at the time of the attack and was coming from a police canteen at the trading centre around midnight when he met with the assailants.
Further, authorities say Mr Mugambi was rescued by police officers who were enforcing curfew within Oldonyiro town.
The teacher claimed that the student had threatened who reportedly attacked him had earlier threatened him following a disagreement over sharing plates at the school.
“He (student) was the one who first hit me before the others joined him,” the teacher told journalists in Isiolo town.
However, an administrator who did not want to be named told The Press Point that the past disagreement had been resolved and that the student even wrote an apology letter to the teacher.
Meanwhile, officials have rubbished claims by the teacher that he was being targeted for being non-local saying the majority of the teachers in the region are from other counties.
The teacher appealed to the Teacher Service Commission to transfer him to a safer place saying, “I cannot go back to the school because I fear for my life.”
