A 30-year-old man from Meru County has been killed by residents for threatening to kill his mother barely a month after he escaped prison where he had been jailed over murder charges.
Mr Jediel Kaberia was behind the killing of his child, wife and father and was imprisoned at Kangeta prison, where he was released on unclear circumstances on May 20, 2021.
On arrival at home, he disappeared only to come back early this week threatening to kill his mother and three other people including his brother.
The mother, Eunice Nkatha, screamed for help when the son started chasing her around the compound with a knife.
Residents from Kathima Village in Igembe Central descended on the man, beating him to death before a resident informed police who came for the body.
The mother said she had been fearing for her life since the son was released.
