A section of Isiolo women have asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to fast-track the appointment of Justice Martha Koome as the Chief Justice following her nomination by the Judicial Service Commission.
Addressing journalists in Isiolo town, they exuded confidence that the Head of State will give a nod paving way for her vetting in the Parliament as Justice Koome was the only one unanimously picked by nine-member JSC.
Lucy Mworia, a human rights activist, said Justice Koome was up to the task saying she had in the past demonstrated her commitment and zeal in dealing with the backlog in courts.
“We are confident that Justice Koome will ensure access to justice and deal with backlog that courts continue to grapple with,” the Isiolo North MP hopeful said.
Ms Grace Lolim, Isiolo Gender Watch Executive Director, said the Judge, who has been passionate about women and the marginalized, will ensure justice to victims of Gender-Based Violence, which is on the rise if she sails through Parliament.
“Justice Koome will be critical in the formulation of policies for handling GBV cases and dealing with pending cases,” Ms Lolim said.
According to Ms Lolim, women, who are the most affected by GBV, have been suffering as the cases take long in court and is hopeful the appointment of Justice Koome will ensure speedy completion of cases.
