The Olive Mugenda led Judicial Service Commission has unanimously picked Justice Martha Koome to fill the position of Chief Justice.
Her name will be forwarded to the President.
The announcement comes hours after the Court of Appeal lifted orders earlier issued by the High Court stopping the process following a petition by four Kenyans.
