The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has served Samburu Moses Lenolkulal with a letter requiring him to explain the source of the money he used to procure several assets worth Sh661 million that he has amassed since 2013.
According to the agency, the second term Governor acquired four pieces of land in Karen, Nairobi each measuring 0.4994 acres and all valued at Sh148.5 million on the same day-April 21, 2014.
Mr Lenolkulal also purchased a Mercedes Sports and Toyota Land Cruiser Prado in July 2015 and July 2016 respectively all totaling Sh19 million.
The Governor is also said to have during the period under review operated seven banks and M-Pesa accounts where a whooping Sh536 million was deposited in both accounts.
EACC suspects that the county boss could have fraudulently acquired his wealth and has asked the leader to provide the commission with information regarding the source of the monies deposited and transferred.
Mr Lenolkulal has until May 3 to respond to “explain in writing the disproportion between the assets with information on the source of income” according to a letter by EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak dated April 19, 2021.
The Governor termed the raised issue sub judice to an ongoing case in court.
He has been facing a number of charges from 2019 when he was arrested over alleged abuse of office and fraudulent loss of Sh84.6 million public funds.
Last week, Mr Lenolkulal, who has been banned from accessing his office, risked arrest for reshuffling his cabinet since 2019. He said the move was meant to ensure improved service delivery.
