A family in Makuri village in Maara constituency is mourning death of a 71-year-old woman who was stung to death by bees.
Two other family members, the deceased’ husband and her son, are also admitted at PCEA Chogoria Mission Hospital where they are receiving treatment.
Mr Kaburu Mwiricia, the husband of the deceased woman, Irene Kaburu, said the late wife was picking tea in company of few other people when the bees from three beehives attacked them on Wednesday.
He said, he was with his son, Njeru Kaburu at home when they heard screams and when they hurried there, they found his deceased lying on the ground covered by bees all over the body.
Mr Mwiricia added that the other people were also struggling to save themselves from the dangerous bees at the neighbour’s farm
“I found my wife on the ground screaming in pain as the bees covered her all over the body,” said Mr Mwiricia.
He said together with his son tried to rescue the deceased but they were overwhelmed by the bees forcing them to run away.
Fortunately, the two were rescued by the villagers and rushed to hospital.
After about an hour of the ordeal, some villagers wearing protective outfit carried the woman to the hospital where she was confirmed dead.
Mr Justin Mugambi, another victim said villagers struggled to rescue the woman by spraying the bees with pesticide to no avail.
