NARC-Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Handshake brother Raila Odinga to withdraw the Building Bridges Initiative and rethink the constitutional amendments saying they were not good for the country.
The call comes as Mr Kenyatta and the former Prime Minister celebrated their third Anniversary after they shook hands and agreed to work together towards building peace in the country.
“It is not too late to withdraw, rethink over BBI so that we forge forward as a united country,” Ms Karua said during an interview on Citizen TV.
The 63-year-old advocate of the High Court accused the two leaders of not involving all Kenyans and leaders in the BBI process saying it was bad for democracy and had instead of fostering peace, cause intolerance and tension in the country.
The President, she said, must be keen not to bury the gains achieved by the current Constitution 2010.
“The BBI will destroy the gains made in the current constitution,” she said while accusing the duo of ‘blatant refusal to let Kenyans access the document’.
She dismissed claims of eyeing for a top seat saying she will be vying for the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat in next year’s general elections.
“I am not interested in any top seat but will serve Kenyans through Kirinyaga,” she said.
Ms Karua lost in 2017 Governor’s contest to incumbent Anne Waiguru in a heavily contested election after garnering 122, 091 votes against Ms Waiguru’s 161, 373 votes.
She contested the election citing election irregularities and even filed a petition at the High Court seeking to have the election nullified but lost the petition’s at the High court, Court of Appeal and lastly at the Supreme Court.
