Detectives in Isiolo are interrogating three people believed to have taken part in the killing of the bodaboda rider which has since created tension in Isiolo town and its environs.
The deceased was roughed up and later set ablaze at Isiolo – Meru border near Isiolo International Airport for allegedly stealing motorbike spare parts on Thursday evening.
Isiolo County Commissioner Herman Shambi said that the three suspects were the owner and rider of the tuk-tuk that the deceased was transported in from Isiolo town and the owner of the garage where the stolen goods were found.
Mr Shambi, while assuring that the security team was committed to ensuring normalcy resumes, asked residents to remain calm and reopen their businesses as police continue with investigations so that all culprits are brought to book.
The administrator warned residents against spreading fear and panic on social platforms through propaganda saying those found culpable will be arrested.
He ruled out claims that the incident was on tribal and religious grounds saying that those arrested were from different tribes.
A spot-check by the Press point revealed that many businesses remain shut for fear of the unknown.
Parents on Friday morning withdrew their children from schools following the increasing fear and tension in the populated town.
Mr Shambi asked the bodaboda operators to shun staging retariatory attacks but allow police do their work. He also asked them to exercise tolerance towards each other.
