Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi, a Deputy President William Ruto ally, has been arrested.
Mr Maangi was arrested at Kisii School while waiting to receive leaders coming to attend the burial of late former Cabinet Minister Simeon Nyachae who passed on early this month.
It is not yet clear the reason for the arrest but police sources revealed that the deputy governor with several others including South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro was arrested for allegedly mobilizing and ferrying youths to disrupt Mr. Nyachae’s burial.
Mr Maangi was arrested minutes before Ruto arrived at the event.
President Uhuru Kenyatta, ODM leader Raila Odinga are among other top government officials at the ceremony.
