An MCA hopeful said to have stabbed a woman severally using a knife at Mwangaza area, Isiolo over an alleged land dispute will remain in police custody until Tuesday next week.

The aspiring Wabera ward rep George Karithi attacked Andline Kanana at her home on Saturday evening and after committing the crime fled.

Irate members of the public immediately launched his manhunt and at one time even threatened to torch one of the residents’ houses where the politician was suspected to be hiding.

The assailant was arrested two days later by police officers acting on tip-off from the public around midnight.

It is reported that Mr Karithi, while riding on a motorbike, ambushed the lady at their home and attacked her with a knife injuring her hands and back.

The suspect attacked the victim, over a parcel of land he had allegedly sold to the lady’s late kin at Sh800, 000 and which he is said to be claiming ownership.

It is believed Mr Karithi had the intent to kill the lady as the deep cuts she sustained on the hands were directed to her head.

When he was arraigned on Tuesday, the prosecution sought continued holding of the man to allow police to conclude investigations.

Due to his influence in the area, investigating officer Mkuzi Edward argued, releasing him on bail or bond would interfere with ongoing investigations.

The court gave police seven days to conclude the probe and have the victim, undergoing treatment, record statement and P3 form prepared. The suspect will be detained at Isiolo Police Station.

Police will also assess the extent of injuries before charges are preferred which could be either assault, grievous harm, or attempted murder.

The suspect will be taken back to court on February 17, 2020.
