Somali elders in Isiolo have praised the Senate for nullifying the hearing of Governor Abdi Ibrahim Guyo impeachment, saying the decision has restored hope for constitutional order and unity in the county.
“The Senate has saved Isiolo.Our calls for dialogue were ignored, but senators stepped in and exercised utmost wisdom yesterday,”said Somali Council of Elders (SCE) Chairperson Abdikadir Shariff Abdullahi.
The official urged Governor Guyo to now rise above divisions and bring all leaders together including MCAs and Senator Fatuma Dullo with whom he has been embroiled in a standoff.
“The governor should now consider uniting all the leaders for a better county. A peaceful coexistence will be beneficial to both leaders and the citizens,” he noted.
SCE Secretary General Idle Hassan hailed the Senate as a constitutional house that had set the right precedence noting that the community was in support of the decision.
The Senate, July 8, declared the impeachment was illegally conducted noting that the MCAs failed to provide evidence that they had a sitting on June 26, 2025 to impeach the Governor.
“We appreciate the Senate Speaker Amason Kingi for the guidance offered to our leaders. We hope the leaders will follow his advice on unity of purpose,” he said.
The leaders called on the MCAs to embrace a dialogue to sort out their differences with the county boss and avert further political tensions in the county.
Youth leader Ali Hassan said the young people anxiously waited for justice and were relieved by the Senate’s decision.
“Disunity has brought pain. We want peace and cohesion,” he said.
Community representative Shukri Alio echoed the call for reconciliation noting that tensions during the impeachment process greatly affected the local residents.
“Though the conflict was brief, it deeply affected us. Leaders must put their differences aside and serve the people,” he said.
