The Ajuran community in Isiolo has hailed the recent appointment of Ahmed Abdisalan Ibrahim as PS for national government Coordination, terming it a significant milestone for the minority tribe.
Community elders and residents said the move has not only shown that President William Ruto recognized their existence but also demonstrated his commitment to inclusivity in his leadership.
“This is the first time we are getting an appointment as a community,” said the community’s Chairperson Mohammed Abikar who added,”We appreciate Dr Ruto for recognizing us. We shall support his reelection in 2027.”
According to the elders, besides Abdisalan, two other members from the community had been appointed to head different government departments further strengthening their confidence in the Kenya Kwanza administration.
The community, which has witnessed decades of political exclusion, expressed deep appreciation for the move.
The representatives recalled how the community had remained loyal to past governments without any meaningful recognition and appointment.
“For 60 years, we have stood with the government, yet we had never been considered for such positions. Today, we have seen the fruits of our support,”noted elder Osman Bidhu.
Youth leader Adan Mohammed said the community finally felt valued and would therefore rally behind the Kenya Kwanza government in 2027.
“We have never had such an opportunity before. For years, we have struggled to get identification cards, passports, and government jobs. This appointment shows that Ruto is treating all Kenyans fairly, regardless of their background,” he said.
While celebrating the appointment, leaders also urged the government to offer more opportunities to the Ajuran people.
Ms Abdia Gedi, a community representative, said that for years, the lack of representation had silenced their voices on national matters.
“We have the numbers and live across the country. We are appealing for extra positions so that our people can also contribute to nation-building.”noted Ms Gedi.
The community also condemned young men who heckled the President during his recent visit to the county, calling for unity and respect for leadership.
The Ajuran community is now hopeful that their newfound visibility will lead to further development, better access to services, and continued inclusion in government affairs.
